Summary This requisition expires on November 8, 2025, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of water meters, identifying, and repairing water leaks, maintaining meter related tools and equipment, and responds to the needs of the public.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties Essential Functions: - Assists Meter Technician III with scheduling work for Meter Technician I's
- Leads crew in the absence of the Meter Technician III
- Maintains, tests and repairs water meters ranging from ¾" to 10" in the field and Meter Shop.
- Identifies water service line leaks to make the necessary repairs on the City side of the meter or communicates to the customer of leaks on the private side of meter.
- Installs and changes out water meters ranging from ¾" to 2".
- Locates and raises buried meter boxes for Meter Reading to gain access.
- Replaces old meter boxes and lids
- Turns water service on or off as requested by the customer or Water Meter Shop
- Acquires current meter reads as requested by the customer, Water Metering or Customer Service
- Responds to customer concerns such as high bills, taste and odor, proper chlorination, or possible air in the water lines.
- Assists in the installation and repair of large diameter pressure reducing valves.
- Installs and monitors water sample station locations and records all data.
- Repairs water main breaks and service leaks on-call with Water Distribution.
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.

Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have or obtain a valid Class C Water Distribution License from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 36 months of employment.
- Must have or obtain a valid Class II Wastewater Collections Operator License from TCEQ within 24 months of employment.
OR - Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

Preferences: - Prior plumbing or waterworks experience
- TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License
- TCEQ Customer Service Inspector (CSI) License
Conditions of Employment: - Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
- Must be able to obtain a Class "A" CDL with Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
- Must have or obtain and maintain a valid Class C Water Distribution License from TCEQ within 36 months of employment.
- Must have or obtain and maintain a valid Class II Wastewater Collections Operator License from TCEQ within 24 months of employment.
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to work overtime when requested and on-call as needed
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Must respond to after-hours emergency calls.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
The essential functions of this position require the use of meter repair hand tools such as shovels, pipes and wrenches, pitot gauges, and pumping equipment, truck mounted crane, mini excavator, power tools. Employee must wear hearing, eye, and respiratory protection. Will be required to operate light to medium sized motorized equipment such as dump truck, backhoe, front-end loader, flushing and vacuum truck, etc.
