Who are you? Position Summary
Beverage Captains are our in-house wine and beverage experts whose focus Is on maximizing overall beverage sales and delivering an exceptional guest experience. The Beverage Captain is responsible for overall guest service and satisfaction, recommending wine and food pairings, educating guests on beverage selections, and beverage department support in areas such as monthly inventory. Strong wine knowledge is a prerequisite.
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years as a sommelier/wine steward in a fast-paced, high-volume service environment and/or equivalent relevant experience
Extensive knowledge of and a genuine love for wine, winemaking, beer and spirits
Ability to consistently deliver high-quality guest experiences, exceed guest expectations, and strive to create a memorable experience at every City Winery visit
Strong work ethic, team player, and exceptional guest service skills
Ability to execute professional guest service experience with a calm and composed demeanor
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Polished presentation
Ability to take direction from others
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build positive relationships with coworkers and guests
Aptitude to resolve problems
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Must be fluently literate in English including ability to read, write, and communicate, conduct basic business related mathematics, able to accurately function a POS
Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to perform physical requirements of the role including standing/walking for entirety of shift, bending, pulling, pushing, using stairs, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
Overview of Responsibilities
Maximize beverage sales Including wine, beer, spirits, and deliver exceptional guest experiences
Drive beverage sales on the floor by upselling, suggesting, educating, and interacting with guests
Handle table bottle orders through from beginning to end, including order taking, delivery, proper opening and service, and check backs
Ensure wine quality before every shift
Maintain a floor presence during service to attend to guest needs, touch tables, and assist in service as necessary
Attend daily pre-shift to communicate daily beverage products in and out of stock and conduct trainings and/or tastings as appropriate
Guide and teach staff about beverage offerings and answer questions to further staff education and menu knowledge
Actively participate in beverage inventories on a daily and monthly basis when needed, including but not limited to, counting, stocking inventories and updating “86” board, as well as counts for wine tomes in service, ensuring tomes are current and in good condition
Follow all health and safety regulations, including enforcing laws and ordinances in the handling and provision of alcoholic beverages.
Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines including being ready to work at scheduled shift time, in uniform, with neat and presentable appearance.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of all work areas
Attend trainings, tastings, meetings, as needed
Perform all other reasonably assigned duties
