American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg ICU position in a Level 1 trauma setting requiring a compact or NE RN license and strong critical care skills.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Work in a 34-bed Med Surg ICU within an acute care hospital
  • Level 1 trauma center environment caring for adults and patients over 15 years old
  • Common patient populations include neuro, respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and post-surgical oncology cases
  • Nurse to patient ratios: ICU 1:1-2, PCU 1:4-5, MS 1:5-6
  • Utilizes advanced equipment including CRRT, impella, balloon pump, CVPs, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser
  • RNs expected to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • RNs must read and interpret telemetry without monitor technicians (Draeger centralized telemetry monitoring)
  • EMR: Epic; experience preferred
  • Requires working 12-hour day shifts (0630-1830) with every other weekend and holiday coverage as needed
  • Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
  • Successful candidates possess strong critical thinking, teamwork, good communication skills, and a positive attitude
  • Charge nurse on every shift who attends rapid response and codes
  • Nurse aids/patient care techs support with a 1:18 ratio
  • Team-based environment with collaboration alongside attendings, fellows, and residents
  • Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided with a pass/fail open book exam (90% required to pass)
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Staff must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off permitted per 13-week contract; additional time off is not approved

  • Active NE or Compact RN license required at the time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must provide a valid driver's license for verification of residence outside a 50-mile radius
  • Cannot have been employed in any capacity by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the past 3 years
  • Candidates must not use artificial nails in patient care areas
