Job Description

Provides crime prevention and law enforcement responsibilities for the conduct of routine patrols, preliminary, criminal, and specialized investigations, and traffic control duties in a designated area during an assigned shift. This position is a part‑time officer and must meet the same qualifications and standards of a full‑time officer. Starting Salary

With limited supervision, this position operates in an assigned area(s) of the City of Grapevine and, through the application of sound judgment developed through training, education, and experience, performs crime prevention and detection activities to enforce federal, state, and local laws, preserve community peace and protect property and lives. Typical Duties Patrols an assigned area to prevent and detect criminal activities, normally operating a city vehicle. Responds to emergency calls to protect lives and property, often involving criminal activities. Apprehends suspected criminals as situation dictates. Initiates applicable investigation techniques to develop and prosecute criminals under each offense. Prepares reports to document investigative actions, interviews, interrogations, subpoena procurement, written statements, affidavits for evidentiary warrants and arrest warrants, evidence collection; identification, location and apprehension of perpetrators and property recovery. Submits these documents for supervisory review. Prepares and presents cases to relevant courts, legal processes, and testifies when required. Investigates non‑criminal actions such as missing persons, internal affairs, found property, and other relevant requests for service. Enforces traffic laws through patrol and issuance of citations. Participates in Police Department crime‑prevention and education programs and activities. Conducts specialized undercover investigations as assigned. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work. Maintains regular and timely attendance. Education, Experience and Other Requirements Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Hold a current TCOLE Peace Officer’s license. Be at least 21 years of age or older. Have a TCOLE honorable discharge from any previous agency(s), if applicable. Have or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license by hire date. The Grapevine Police Department will only accept part‑time police officer (PTO) applicants under the following guidelines: • Recently resigned or retired full‑time Grapevine Police Department officers having received an honorable F5, through no appeal process, and eligible for rehire. Separation must be at least 91 days but less than 180 days. Must have been employed as a full‑time police officer for at least 1 year, calculated forward from completion of the field training program to the date of full‑time separation. TCOLE license must be current and valid on the date of hire. Must satisfy all City of Grapevine and Department hiring requirements: PHS, criminal history check, CJIS check, and pass a pre‑employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment. • Any former Grapevine Police Department officer separated for more than 180 days may return. At the discretion of the Chief of Police. Must meet all qualifications for being a Grapevine Police Officer. Must participate and pass the current hiring process. Must satisfy all City of Grapevine screening requirements for employment: full background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, pre‑employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment. • Recently resigned or retired full‑time peace officers from another Texas law enforcement agency who must: Have a current and valid TCOLE license on the date of hire. At the discretion of the Chief of Police. Meet all qualifications for being a Grapevine Police Officer. Participate and pass the hiring process: full background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, pre‑employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment, and successfully complete a department field training program. Employees designated to drive a commercial motor vehicle in a non‑emergency situation must maintain a CDL driver’s license. Pass a full background investigation, polygraph exam, and psychological exam. Pass a pre‑employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment. Applicants must NOT have: Any DWI (alcohol or drugs) convictions in the last ten years. Any felony convictions. Any convictions, court‑ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years. Any convictions, deferred adjudication, or probation for assault or family violence. Working Conditions Prior to and during the academy, working conditions will primarily be in a classroom or office setting. Physical activity such as training, firearms training, emergency driving training, among other activities, is a part of this position.
