Job Description

Pharmacy Director receives supervision from staff pharmacist or technician supervisors on duty during the daily work flow.

Responsibilities:

• Performs compounding procedures according to all pertinent local, state and federal regulations
• Performs IV pharmaceutical compounding activities under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
• Maintains accurate records of all work order information and all procedures for IV compounding
• Assist in maintaining all aspects of IV infusion patient charts
• Performs maintenance documentation and sanitation of clean room complex (weekly, monthly)
• Maintain and keep pharmacy work area clean
• Performs inventory procedures (drug ordering, receiving of drug orders, supplies and merchandise, shipping or merchandise, stocking supplies)
• Maintains a full level of all supplies within the pharmacy work area and in the clean room complex
• Maintains pump tracking policies and procedures, maintains accurate required pump records
• Maintains Quality Assurance records on all pumps for JCAHO
• Performs billing functions and monthly audits
• Processes returns
• Keeps all forms and labels in stock at all times
• Other duties as assigned
• Follows daily packaging assignments (Selecting appropriate medications for packing; packing medications in blister cards, etc.)
• Completes extemporaneous packaging assignments as needed
• Keeps a clean work station and replenishes supplies
• Double checks all medications before completing process
• Obtains pharmacist check
• Places completed work appropriately for next process
• Returns any unused stock on shelf in appropriate area of pharmacy
• May be cross trained to float to other related areas (delivery, EDK, etc.)
• Handles exceptions to completion or confers with supervisor/pharmacist
• Assists pharmacists with calls to facilities for order clarifications.
• Performs any other duty that may be assigned by supervisor or pharmacist for the workflow of pharmacy
• Has a basic knowledge of unit dose packaging, bingo/blister card packaging, liquids and compounding, EDK, labeling, etc. SPECIALTY ASSIGNMENTS: UNIT DOSE /NARCOTIC PREPARATION/LIQUIDS/COMPOUNDING
• Wears gloves and/or washes hands when handling medications
• Cleans unit dose machines, compounding mixer, etc. appropriately
• Replaces supplies and containers
• Receives and checks in all deliveries in a timely manner
• Accurately distributes and files invoices
• Restocks/rotates products on shelves
• Removes outdated products and returns to manufacturers for credit
• Ensures that each product has wholesaler reorder # tag on shelf
• Assists with required inventory counts
• Assists in purchasing/inventory of products
• Returns products to wholesalers (damaged, overstock)
• Control audits on a weekly basis
• Other tasks as directed by the staff pharmacist to assist in daily work flow.

• Currently enrolled as a student in an accredited School of Pharmacy within California
• Current State of CA RPh Intern License
• Understanding of sterile technique and IV room protocols
• Accuracy in work and attention to detail
• Good math skills
• Good communication and telephone skills
• Computer proficiency
• Minimal bending and stooping
• Lifting 15-20#s occasionally
• Visual acuity to see and read fine print and operate office equipment
• Ability to stand 6-8 hours per day
• Maintain good personal hygiene
• Minimal typing skills
• Understanding of and willingness to keep confidentiality and integrity issues
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work productively and independently
