School Counselor (Middle School)

In September 2025, the AECI Charter Schools Network will expand to welcome its first-ever 6th-grade cohort as part of the middle school extension of AECI Charter High School. This expansion aims to meet the overwhelming demand from families seeking to continue in the innovative AECI Network model of education in the South Bronx.

AECI students develop the skills, knowledge, and practical experiences necessary for success in college and careers, particularly in the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction. Through collaboration with industry partners, post-secondary institutions, apprenticeships, and themed project-based learning, students gain invaluable exposure to real-world careers and rigorous college-preparatory learning experiences.

About the Role

The AECI Charter Schools Network is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Middle School Counselor to support the inaugural 6th-grade cohort and foster the social-emotional and academic success of its students. Under the supervision of the middle school principal, the counselor will provide comprehensive services to address the social, emotional, behavioral, and learning needs of students. The counselor will collaborate with families, teachers, school staff, and community organizations to create a supportive environment that promotes student well-being and achievement.

Our School Counselor (Middle School) will perform the following duties:

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide individual and group counseling (mandated and at-risk) in areas such as attendance, academic progress, crisis intervention, and high school readiness.
  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and academic progress.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations.
  • Provide monthly reports and data on student progress.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education department to support student services and contribute to IEP development.
  • Facilitate an Advisory course to prepare students for high school success.
  • Work some Saturdays and evenings and early mornings as needed. Per session will be paid for any Saturday activities and events.
  • Execute intervention strategies for At-Risk-Students.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback on student learning.
  • Perform any other tasks as deemed necessary by the principal and assistant principal relating to student success.
  • Deliver bi-monthly workshops on relevant topics for middle school students.
  • Participate in monthly PTA meetings and other school events.
  • Serve as a high-energy advocate and resource for students, parents, and staff.
  • Plan and chaperone one overnight student trip annually,

Qualifications:

  • Must have at minimum a Bachelor's degree in an area related to Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology at the High School level.
  • Must demonstrate clear, articulate, and effective expressive language and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
  • Must be well-organized, creative, and responsible and have the ability to inspire students to reach full potential.
  • Must be comfortable with creating basic charts and tables on Microsoft and Excel programs.
  • Must have NYS Certification in school counseling by date of hire.

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience and certification.

Salary : $70,180.16-$109,747.01
