About this role
Mewbourne Oil Company is searching for motivated students that are seeking an internship for the summer of 2025. Selected candidates will work hand-in-hand with experienced engineers that currently work for and with Mewbourne Oil Company at the production sites. The internship consists of but is not limited to working on real-world engineering projects with our operations teams. The selected individual(s) will be working out of one of our three operations offices (Hobbs, NM; Perryton, TX; Woodward, OK) for the entire summer.

Founded in 1965, Mewbourne is proud to celebrate sixty years of success in 2025. Our internship program has been a profound success for both students and the education of future industry leaders since its inception in 1982. For the summer of 2024, Mewbourne hosted more than 40 talented student interns, and that number is expected to grow in 2025.
Mewbourne Oil Company has grown into one of the more prominent independent oil and natural gas producers in the Anadarko and Permian Basins of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The company's success over the years can be attributed to a conservative approach to the business and a philosophy of managing all phases of operations from "prospect to pipeline."
From the Company's headquarters in Tyler, Texas, and with its three exploration offices located in Amarillo and Midland, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, along with four operation offices located in Perryton and Midland, Texas, Woodward, Oklahoma, and Hobbs, New Mexico, Mewbourne Oil Company develops oil and natural gas prospects, acquires leasehold interests, and serves as the operator in the drilling, completion and production of oil and natural gas wells. The company has focused its efforts on two of this country's most prolific producing regions, the Anadarko and Permian Basins. The Anadarko and Permian Basins have produced more than 32 billion barrels of oil and 156 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and contain many of the largest oil and natural gas fields in the United States.
With over 55 years of experience operating in the Anadarko and Permian Basins, the Company has developed an organization with extensive knowledge of the operations and opportunities which exist in these two producing areas. The long history of oil and natural gas drilling in these basins has provided an abundance of valuable historical data. Mewbourne's professionals are adept at utilizing this data to secure leasehold rights, evaluate potential drill sites and assess operations.
Historically, the Company has emphasized establishing long-life natural gas reserves through the drilling of medium-depth wells between 3,000 and 13,000 feet deep. Prospective drill sites generally include field extensions, step-outs, trend plays and other anomalies that are believed to be contiguous to areas where the presence of oil and natural gas has already been established. The company currently operates over 3,000 wells.
Qualifications
Our internship program invites undergraduate students (including freshmen and sophomores) to apply for consideration. We are seeking student interns with a healthy academic performance, strong work ethic, and demonstrated interest in the petroleum industry.
