Job Description

Are you a passionate HR professional with a love for books and a knack for HRIS?

We’re on the hunt for a driven HR Generalist with 3-5 years of experience who is ready to bring their expertise to a vibrant and fast-growing company. At Sourcebooks, we’re reimagining publishing and we need a forward-thinking HR professional to help us build a creative, engaged, and innovative workplace. If you thrive in a dynamic environment and want to play a pivotal role in shaping our culture, we’d love to meet you!

As an HR Generalist at Sourcebooks, you’ll be at the heart of our HR efforts, supporting a wide range of HR programs while driving employee engagement across a hybrid workforce. You’ll also play a key role in optimizing our HRIS to streamline processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve efficiency. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how we build and nurture a culture that’s passionate about books and growth.

This position is hybrid with 3 days in-office in Naperville and 2 days remote.   This is an exempt position with a salary range of $60,000 - $70,000 (salary to commensurate with experience).

What You’ll Do:

  • Administer and support a variety of HR programs such as onboarding, benefits, performance management, employee recognition, and leave administration.
  • Manage and continually optimize our HRIS (preferably ADP) to ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and an exceptional user experience.
  • Innovate and lead the development of procedures for streamlining HR processes—both manual and automated—making reporting faster, smarter, and more accurate.
  • Work closely with the payroll team to ensure HRIS data is seamlessly aligned with payroll systems and employee changes are properly reflected.
  • Use your analytical skills to create insightful HR metrics reports and recommend process improvements.
  • Assist our Associate Director of Talent Acquisition with recruitment efforts, from scheduling interviews to attending recruiting events and partnering with colleges/universities to find top talent.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while also ensuring adherence to Sourcebooks policies.
  • Partner with our Sr. HR Director on employee relations, offering guidance to managers and staff on HR policies and resolving any issues.
  • Collaborate with the HR team to plan and execute engaging employee activities that inspire creativity and foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Be the go-to HR resource for employees, answering questions and helping them navigate HR processes.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist role with a strong background in HRIS systems (preferably ADP).
  • A passion for process improvement and data analysis. You’ll be comfortable diving into HR metrics to uncover insights and optimize processes.
  • Experience in key HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and performance management.
  • A growth mindset, eager to collaborate with a team and contribute ideas that drive change.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with employees across all levels of the organization.
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and care.

Why Sourcebooks?

  • We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, 401(k), short- and long-term disability insurance, life/AD&D insurance, and generous paid time off.
