Overview Genetic Counseling Assistant – Department: Medicine | IM Human Genetics, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Provides support both clinically and administratively to the Division of Human Genetics within the Department of Internal Medicine. Responsibilities include collecting and maintaining data on patients seeking genetic testing, preparing counseling charts, assisting with pre-authorization, completing clinical paperwork and database entry, entering test results into the database/patient medical record, follow-up with patients after testing, coordinating sample logistics, scheduling disclosure visits, recruiting and consenting patients for clinical trials, and managing regulatory files for research studies. Interacts with patients, physicians, vendors and staff to provide accurate, timely information. Collaborates across departments to meet division goals and deadlines. Recruits and consents patients for clinical trials; manages regulatory files for research studies; interacts with patients, physicians, vendors and staff. Identifies and resolves operational concerns; ensures appropriate actions to meet division goals, guidelines and deadlines; reviews, screens and triages inquiries to appropriate individuals; collaborates across departments and builds relationships with internal and external customers. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred Familiarity with medical records content, chart review and abstraction; understanding of medical and genetics terminology Experience in human genetics and related data management desired Background check required; pre-employment physical and drug screen may be required Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication; ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations; maintain poise, tact and diplomacy Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common software; attention to detail and ability to manage priorities and deadlines Additional Information The Division of Human Genetics offers outpatient consultation services, conducts clinical and translational research, and participates in community education and outreach.
