Description Department: Church Publishing Inc Job Type: Regular Full Time Education Level: BA/BS Required Years Experience: 5 Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI) was founded in 1918 as the Church Hymnal Corporation, a nonprofit affiliate of the Church Pension Group. Today, CPI's professionals produce about 50 new books and resources each year, and manage a portfolio of more than 2,600 active products, many sold worldwide. The Editor will primarily acquire and edit books across imprints (Morehouse Publishing and Church Publishing), work to support liturgical work management and developmental editing as needed. This position will generate ideas, reach out to potential authors, work with partners in line with the overall identity of the publishing house. This position will work closely with authors to develop content and shepherd projects from acquisition to publication and beyond, ensuring a successful publication defined by revenue goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration. Acquire and edit 12 trade and professional books a year and manage liturgical works. Developmentally edit manuscripts as is needed across lists. Prepare necessary editorial and acquisitions packets including descriptions, selling points and comparative titles. Write copy. Adhere to metadata guidelines in the presentation of information to sales accounts. Ensure on time delivery of manuscripts to production, meeting publication schedules. Manage permissions as necessary. Manage author communications, negotiating CPI needs. Facilitate contractual agreements. Work closely with marketing to maximize sales and build the academic brand. Present at sales conferences and attend conferences and book fairs as necessary. Knowledge or interest in faith-based publishing a plus. Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
