Position: Director of Social Services for Homeless Shelter Program

Salary - $80,000

Carter Lard Consulting operating a family shelter with children in Brooklyn with approximately 55 families.


Job Summary:
The Director of Social Services for a Homeless Shelter Program is responsible for overseeing the provision of comprehensive social services to homeless individuals and families, ensuring their access to vital resources, support, and opportunities for stability and self-sufficiency. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of social service programs, and a commitment to empowering vulnerable populations. The focus ultimately is on finding permanent housing solutions.


Responsibilities:


1. Program Development and Management:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social services program that addresses the needs of homeless individuals and families, including case management, counseling, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, job placement, and educational support.

- Experienced in housing placement and support, especially important
- Create and review program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
- Evaluate and modify programs based on the changing needs of the population served and best practices in social services.


2. Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise social services staff members, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide effective support to clients.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities to staff to enhance their performance and well-being.


3. Collaboration and Partnerships:
- Collaborate with community organizations, government agencies, and service providers to develop and strengthen partnerships that enhance the delivery of social services.
- Represent the shelter program in relevant community meetings, task forces, and coalitions to advocate for the needs of homeless individuals and families.


4. Client Assessment and Case Management:
- Oversee the client assessment and screening process to ensure individuals and families receive appropriate and timely assistance.
- Develop and implement effective case management practices to support clients in achieving their goals and accessing necessary resources.
- Monitor client progress, conduct regular assessments, and adjust service plans accordingly.


5. Data Collection and Reporting:
- Develop and implement systems for data collection and reporting to track program outcomes, success rates, and impact on clients.
- Utilize data-driven insights to evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for executive management, funders, and regulatory agencies.


Qualifications:


- Master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field preferred

- Strong knowledge of CARES and working closely with DHS
- Proven experience in social services program management, preferably with a focus on homelessness.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
- Solid understanding of the social, economic, and mental health challenges faced by homeless populations.
- Knowledge of community resources, government systems, and social service programs.
- Familiarity with federal and local regulations pertaining to social services.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a solution-oriented approach.
- Empathy, compassion, and dedication to serving vulnerable populations.
