About WORKac

WORKac is a dynamic architecture and design practice with projects across the U.S. and around the world. Our work focuses on public, cultural, civic, and residential projects that rethink how we live, work, and come together. We are committed to environmentally and socially engaged design and consistently explore inventive intersections between architecture, landscape, and ecological systems. Collaboration is foundational to our practice.

We are seeking a creative, strategic, and self-directed Director of Communications & Marketing to lead the firm’s external voice, visibility, and narrative across digital, print, and experiential platforms. This role shapes how WORKac is seen — by clients, collaborators, peers, and the public — and drives strategic growth through compelling storytelling, targeted outreach, and thoughtful positioning.

This is both a high-level strategic and hands-on creative role. You’ll work closely with the principals and project teams to craft narratives, lead proposals, oversee press and PR, and cultivate a strong, consistent brand across all channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Business Development

Business Development

  • Develop and implement strategies to identify and pursue new opportunities.
  • Track market trends and emerging project types; advise principals on priority pursuits.
  • Leverage relationships with cultural and academic institutions to expand visibility.
  • Manage and grow a prospects database with consistent outreach and follow-up.

RFP/RFQ Leadership

  • Research upcoming opportunities and maintain a clear pipeline of pursuits.
  • Lead, coordinate, and execute all RFP/RFQ submissions—from narrative development to graphics—in collaboration with principals and consultants.
  • Craft strong, consistent writing reflecting the firm’s voice and creative strengths.
  • Evaluate submittal performance quarterly and follow up for feedback.
  • Communications & Digital Marketing

Press, Awards & Photography

  • Manage external PR consultants and press collaborators, ensuring alignment on strategy, messaging, and outreach.
  • Develop press strategies, awards calendars, and opportunities such as exhibitions and biennales.
  • Coordinate project photography and manage the development of image assets.
  • Lead award submission packages from research to completion.

Digital Strategy

  • Create and execute an integrated communications strategy across PR, social media, newsletters, and targeted campaigns.
  • Produce compelling content tailored to architecture audiences and the general public.
  • Manage WORKac’s extensive image library and ensure consistent organization across platforms.
  • Track and interpret analytics to inform content strategy and improve performance.

Website & Email Marketing

  • Oversee all website content, copy, assets, and technical updates.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure timely updates to project pages, news, bios, and press.
  • Develop and deploy regular newsletters and targeted email campaigns.
  • Analyze performance metrics and optimize campaign strategies.
  • Maintain and grow curated contact lists.

Social Media Leadership

  • Lead strategy, planning, and execution across social media platforms, with a focus on Instagram.
  • Shape a cohesive and engaging visual and written voice for the practice.
  • Develop creative new content formats (video, behind-the-scenes, short-form media, etc.).
  • Track engagement, produce monthly analytics reports, and identify opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, communications, digital media, art history, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, business development, or digital media, ideally within architecture, design, or cultural institutions.
  • Excellent writing ability, editorial judgment, and visual sensibility.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong CMS experience; familiarity with HTML, APIs, and web integrations.
  • Experience with Mailchimp or similar platforms; comfort using analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of motion graphics, video editing, or animation is a plus.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, proactive, and able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Life at WORKac

We offer a creative, collaborative studio environment with opportunities for growth and mentorship. Benefits include:

  • Medical insurance
  • 401k
  • Paid vacation and sick time
  • Engagement in publications, exhibitions, and public programming
  • The opportunity to contribute to a design-driven practice committed to innovation and social impact
