TITLE: Community Resource Area Development Agent (Fine Arts,)Boone, Kenton, Campbell Counties NKY DEPARTMENT:  Cooperative Extension Program REPORTS TO:  Northern KY Area Director CLASSIFICATION:  Staff-12 months EFFECTIVE DATE:  TBD STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Full-Time  EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt   JOB SUMMARY:  Extension Agents are community-based professionals of Kentucky State University who make a difference by connecting community needs with university resources. The Extension Agent for Community Resource Development will develop, conduct, and deliver educational programs based on locally identified needs in the community, and assisting with general community needs, while prioritizing the needs of underserved and minority audiences. Fine Arts Extension agents develop, conduct, and deliver educational programs based on locally identified needs to build a dynamic arts culture, which leads to improved quality of life for children and families The Agent will design and deliver arts workshops, classes, and events also collaborate with community partners to enhance arts initiatives.The Extension Agent for Fine Arts is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating effective and comprehensive educational programs and training. The Fine Arts programs are designed to strengthen existing arts programs, as well as develop new opportunities for arts engagements, in the community which they serve, particularly among socially disadvantaged and limited resource families. The Fine Arts Extension Agent will be responsible for non-formal educational programs in music, poetry, performing arts, painting, etc. The agent will work closely with the Community Resource Development Program Leader and other Fine Arts professionals for all programmatic efforts. This position will be a member of the off-campus Extension staff of Kentucky State University as part of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System, which is composed of individuals and programs from both Kentucky State University and the University of Kentucky.The Extension Agent reports to the Northern KY Area Extension Director. This position will serve all clientele and give them an equal opportunity to participate in programs regardless of race, gender, age, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work with and/or develop advisory committees to facilitate community involvement in programming.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs through virtual and face-to-face in all aspects of fine arts. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness. Prepare reports for stakeholders and funders
  • Review the needs within the Extension assigned area and support local programs with resource information. Develop materials to promote arts education. Conduct outreach activities and provide volunteer training.
  • Conduct programs that reach underserved and diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external Extension partners, facilitate partnerships to support arts programs
  • Maintain records, clientele sign-in sheets, and submit reports as required by the Kentucky Extension Reporting System.
  • Collaborate with local community members, partner organizations and Extension faculty to develop and implement educational programming assuring that all citizens have equal access to programming.
  • Utilize a variety of educational strategies to implement programming. Examples include informal classes, presentations, media, volunteers, demonstrations, experiential learning, distance learning and group facilitation. Collect evidence of program impact to market, report results and improve the program.
  • Build relationships with local artists and organizations.
  • Secure funding through grants and sponsorships. Manage budgets and resources for program sustainability.
  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating participatory Extension or non-formal education programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent team building skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine program priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of educational technologies and their appropriate use in the development and delivery of educational programs.
  • Program marketing skills.
  • Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage participants in delivery.
  • Maintain a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues, and a willingness to further the civil rights goals of KSU Cooperative Extension.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and a variety of related software applications; Expert use of Microsoft applications necessary: Vista, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to utilize social media platforms for programming efforts.
  • Ability to develop media resources for programming efforts.
  • Knowledge of research and educational capabilities of USDA and the Land Grant system knowledge base.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY  This position does not have supervisory responsibility.   OTHER DUTIES:  Position will perform other related duties as required   QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline related to Family & Consumer Science, to include Family Development, Human Nutrition, Consumer Economics, or any closely related field. Degree from AAFCS accredited institution preferred. Master’s degree in child development, family and consumer sciences, or a related field. Three to five years of experience in related field strongly preferred.  WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Must be able to lift large boxes up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Work could involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires some standing or walking.
  • A valid driver license and a personal vehicle for official duty travel are required. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate established by the university.
