The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

The Assistant General Counsel supports the Coalition’s Legal Department by assisting the General Counsel in managing legal needs across the organization. This role provides legal advice, manages litigation, ensures compliance, and supports corporate governance, employment, real estate, risk management, and insurance matters. The Assistant General Counsel also contributes to proactive risk mitigation and policy development to ensure organizational integrity and compliance.

Essential Job Functions
  • Support the General Counsel in overseeing legal matters for the organization, including corporate governance, finance, contracts, compliance, insurance, real estate, and employment. 
  • Handle assigned litigation, including case investigation, legal research, drafting court filings, discovery responses, settlement agreements, and representation in small claims, unemployment, and other matters. 
  • Collaborate with General Counsel to resolve court or administrative proceedings, subpoenas, and complaints to federal and state agencies. 
  • Manage CCH’s insurance portfolio, including claims, policy interpretation, coverage updates and the annual renewal process. 
  • Provide legal support to Human Resources and management in resolving employee relations issues. 
  • Assist with internal and external investigations, audits, and the preparation of written reports and statements. 
  • Coordinate with Risk Management committees to identify proactive solutions to reduce or eliminate organizational risks. 
  • Conduct legal research on applicable statutes, regulations, and codes, including fair housing and employment laws. 
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and revise contracts, agreements, policies, and internal and external reports. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive workforce and client information in compliance with law and CCH policies. 
  • Support development and management of corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain organized legal files, case management documentation, and reporting systems. 
  • Assist in managing workers’ compensation claims and portfolio. 
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on legal matters to General Counsel and organizational leaders. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
​Qualifications Summary
  • Juris Doctorate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. 
  • Attorney license from Colorado, or licensure from another state that has reciprocity with Colorado, with the expectation to waive into the Colorado bar within 180 days of hire. 
  • 3-5 years of prior experience as an attorney. 
  • Experience in healthcare, social services, or human services setting preferred. 
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills with high emotional intelligence. 
  • Knowledge of issues affecting people experiencing homelessness and sensitivity to working with underserved populations. 
  • Knowledge of fair housing and employment law compliance. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint). 
  • Strong business and legal writing skills. 
  • Database and HRIS systems management experience preferred.
