Job Description

The City of Bessemer is seeking qualified Arborists with comprehensive experience in tree care operations, including planting, trimming, insect and disease control, and removal of tree limbs and debris. Arborists will utilize various hand tools and equipment to maintain the health and safety of trees and shrubs. Responsibilities include responding to public concerns about potentially hazardous situations, such as low-hanging branches and fallen trees, requiring effective communication and excellent customer service skills. The role involves working at heights using a bucket truck or ladder to access high limbs. Arborists operate independently, receiving assignments from supervisors and adhering to safety guidelines and industry best practices. Typical job duties include planting trees, providing education to local schools, maintaining equipment, conducting tree removal and trimming at city or county property, coordinating work at job sites, ensuring worksite cleanliness, operating aerial lifts and chainsaws, and reviewing work orders. The job involves significant physical exertion and is primarily performed outdoors, often at heights over 45 feet using a bucket truck. Work involves use of electrical or gas-powered tools and equipment such as power saws, chain saws, weed eaters, and power trimmers.
