Job Description

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • An exempt position responsible for practicing medicine with physician collaboration including conducting
      examinations and writing prescriptions. Within the collaborating physician-APRN relationship, APRNs exercise
      autonomy in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. May include
      responsibility for education, research, and administrative services; APRNs may be required to float between
      departments depended upon patient volumes.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assessing
      presenting illness, risk factors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and performing
      appropriate physical examination.
    • Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Orders/performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening and therapeutic tests. Seeks other
      information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians, for evaluation of illness. Integrates
      data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks; develops and
      implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical
      practice guidelines and state laws.
    • Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments, educates patients regarding health promotion/illness
      prevention, recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs. Communicates appropriate
      case management information to other professionals and community agencies, prepares documentation for medical
      records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and test results, diagnosis, medications,
      and treatment in written/computerized manner.
    • Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing
      education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and
      procedures; acts as consultant/collaborator to clinical team on area of specialty, complies with patient confidentiality
      requirements, promotes patient advocacy, collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • MSN, successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or
        specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner program.
      • Minimum three years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting.
      • Maintains active RN license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and/or State of Ohio as required.
      • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
        • Must obtain Acute Care Certification within 3 years of start
    • Preferred qualifications:
    • Two years of nurse practitioner experience
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed toblood and/or body fluids andinfection.
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
